Our Heroes Commit Suicide
Robin Williams, Kurt Cobain, Freddie Prinze, Jovan Belcher and other “heroes” all committed suicide. It’s a bit odd that people who seem to have so much to live for don’t want to. We have life on a stick and yet we’re unsatisfied. The flesh has an insatiable appetite and as we accumulate more things that don’t make us “happy” and the suicide rate in the United States has risen thirty percent in the last ten years.
As everything from marriage, the economy, and faith in God decline, many seem to be losing their desire to play the game of life. Faith in ourselves and not in God has a devastating outcome. Our television, sports, and music heroes set an example for society or perhaps they only reflect what the public feels. The United States and the rest of the world have been pummeled with the vision of a hopeless future portrayed by political scientists. The climate is changing and if we don’t subject ourselves to tyranny, we’re all going to die; not to mention all the fuzzy little creatures we adore. The world has become very small and we suddenly realize how fragile we are because as the world shrinks, so does our importance.
If we could only understand it’s the fear of God that’s the beginning of knowledge. All of the knowledge and wisdom of man is dung. Men persuade others to do something for their own benefit. That’s true for heroes or the average man on the street. We spend much time on things we have little effect on.
The future we should fear is our personal future. It’s the moment we kneel before God and have to accept His judgment. Whether you’re great or small, rich or poor, we are held accountable for our actions or lack thereof. These dead heroes didn’t believe that and their worshippers don’t either. Their lives were no theirs to take and neither are ours.
