The Thief in the Night
Jesus is going to come like a thief in the night. Have you ever thought about how that happens?
I’ve spent thousands of nights in a row and have had no thieves trying to break into my house. I realize many have experienced the violence of having their home broken into in the night, but it hasn’t happened to me. And it’s not a daily occurrence for the average person. The night is pretty much uneventful. So, when a thief does come it’s something most of us aren’t prepared for. We may have that pistol but do we know where it is or have we practiced using it?
No, we’re not really expecting anything, We’ve become lazy. Scripture tells us that if we’d known, we’d have prepared. We think we have plenty of time. We don’t. Whether we meet Him in the air or die before He returns, we may find ourselves not ready; no oil in our lamps having figured that He tarries or that we surely have many days left to live. We have plenty of time to do all those things we’re not doing. We’ll pray tomorrow. We’ll witness tomorrow. Yes, we’ll get around to that obeying part of the Christian life tomorrow.
My parents, like the saints who died before them, were daily looking for His return. Why? Because this world wasn’t home to them. They longed to see His face. Without Christ, their life was meaningless. Life here had no value. The only reason to be on planet earth was to obey His word and glorify His name. So, we trust in His promises and obey His commands because we love Him. If we love Him we won’t be caught unaware when He comes for us. We’ll be looking for Him because we are His bride.
