Edward Snowden
When Mr. Snowden revealed to the world that we were being spied upon by our government, he felt everyone would be alarmed. Surely there would be an uproar by the public. Today I’m sure he is unnerved, realizing that the bulk of people don’t care.
People throw out their personal information on FaceBook with abandon. So their friends and enemies have it. FaceBook and Google analyze it for the benefit of their bottom line and to enhance their political agenda.
Privacy is becoming a thing of the past. Silicon Valley wants the whole world to have “access” to the internet; I imagine we’ll see those drones they talk about circling the earth soon. Satellites have circled on high for many years; that was control from afar and unnoticed by physical presence. Drones are the next step. Technology rapidly is taking us to that time when there will be no place to hide.
In the meantime, I try to protect myself from prying eyes, changing passwords, not accessing public wifi, and not looking at enticing ads and articles. With the Experian hack, it’s only a matter of time before the whole thing has to crash for a while and be rebuilt. Paper receipts and bank statements are important to keep current on. When the system goes down for a time you’ll be in a better position to prove what you have. I’m sure I’ve written on this before but I need to be reminded of things myself. There is just so much to keep on minds occupied that the important is often replaced by the entertaining.
