My Way
Frank Sinatra sang a song that seemed to ring right for a lot of people, that is “I did it my way”. The fact is everyone does it their way. Whether we are kind, thoughtful, and truthful or we’re cruel liars, we do it our way. That is the exact problem we all have. I can say it is true of my life. My way got in the way of doing things in the way God would approve of.
This whole notion that we are smart enough to make it without God is intoxicatingly wrong. We’re addicted to our brilliance. We may have huge success in business, marriage, children, you-name-it but without God it is at best a hollow victory. What does it profit a man if he gain the whole world and lose his own soul?
Jesus said I am the way. What way? The way to the Father. The Father wanted Jesus to do things His way and He wants us to do the same. Jesus said that knowing God is eternal life. If we’re born again we are children of God. Children don’t get to do whatever they please. They can’t do things their way. Western culture has changed that but that is a fundamental truth.
As we grow in Christ we learn to do things His way. We’re supposed to forget about our way. Adam and Eve did things their way and ever since everyone has decided their way is the best. Sin in simple terms is just doing things our way.
God made everything. We breathe His air and yet we still do not understand who God is or that it is imperative we develop a relationship with Him.
Holding every thought captive before we speak it and prayerfully ponder every decision we make is hard work. But if we are to do things the way He would there is no other option. We must be born again, become a lover of Jesus Christ and then our way becomes His way.
